From the edge of the felled area near Cardoon Bridge the path was completely impassable right back west to the largest burn tributary before the Ponds. Almost the entire line of trees above the path has now fallen across it.

This looks to be a very large job as there could be around 200 metres of path to clear with multiple downed trees across each other the whole way.
There are also some smaller broadleaf now down across the path in the felled area and at Cardoon Bridge.

Forestry and Land Scotland has been notified. However it is appreciated there will be many more similar, and more urgent, situations across the region so it will take time for FLS to get to Balloch Wood.

See latest updates further down this page.

Trees have also fallen across the car park by the ponds, and across the unofficial path down the side of the burn, just below the road bridge.

Update mid April

FLS have cleared the Core Path

Several members have reported the route of the Core Path is now cleared of obstructions from the Village up to the Ponds. Though care should be taken as the path is fairly rough, especially across the recently felled area. Walking boots are strongly recommended.

Update end of April

Photographs and comments regarding the cleared Core Path can be seen on the Cleared Core Path page.
